GODPARENTS SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM LEADING THE SUPPORT OF CHILDREN EDUCATION

The Colombian socioeconomic crisis has severely affected the poorest families and within these, the more vulnerable members, children.

Frequently El Minuto de Dios receives parents, who show that their children are not studying because lack of economic resources. This is a very serious situation, according to studies made by UNICEF "The lack of education in a child´s life results in a 20% loss of income in their adult life"

Gladys Arango Franco is the head of the household, she works as a maid during the day. She has 4 children, ages 1 -14. The children could not study last year because of the family´s economic situation. The eldest son works in an meat packing plant in order to bring home some money, but his work is sporadic which they can´t count on.

Gladys and her 4 children live in a one bedroom rental apartment in Soacha, Cundinamarca. The bathroom, kitchen, and wash area are shared with other families. They only own one bed, in which all 5 sleep. Because of their vulnerable situation the Godparents sponsorship program and our benefactors are helping 2 of the children. Maria Luceny Arango Franco who is 12 years old and now is in 2nd grade and Edwin Camilo Arango Franco who is 3 years old and now is attending a community center where they can take care of him.
